HO HUM! another weary day

Is done and past recall,

And I, too tired for sleeping, lie

And watch the shadows on the wall,

The shadows dancing on the wall.

My muscles, tensed with toil, relax,

Albeit slowly, as I find

That worried thoughts no longer tax

My peace of mind,

My precious peace of mind.

For lassitude, sweet lassitude,

Now holds me in its spell

The magic quiet of lassitude

I know and love so well,

The calm I love so well.

HO HUM! the pillow is so soft,

The bed a floating barque,

No crew, no watcher up aloft,

That sails o’er seas so dark,

HO HUM! so dark; so dark!
